This is a tutorial for those of you wanting to create a cup!
Step 1 - Finding a design
In order to find a good design, work with basic shapes that look good in silhouette form (All black). Use sites such as Google. You may also search the Cricut Design Space. For this tutorial I will show you how to make the give thanks tumbler.
I prefer to work with silhouette images. I found these on Google.
those are really nice and ready to go. Make sure you choose an image that does not have writing (watermarks)
Step 2 - I will save the images I like and upload them one at a time to the Cricut Design Space. This cup has two styles.
Step 3 - When I upload I choose the moderately complex option. Select go. Click on the white background of your image, it should erase everything except your leaf!
Step 4 - Open a new project and add 5 leaves of each, size them how you would like them to fit. It may be wise to measure your cup at this point.
Step 5 - Add the text. Click the text option to the left. Type in the words you want to use. Change the font by selecting at the top of your project sheet. The more complex the harder the transfer will be.
Step 6 - Size your text to fit the cup 4 inches wide is a good number. You may determine the width.
Select create when everything is perfect. On this screen you can move the words and leaves into place, exactly how you want it to look on the cup! Look closely at the grid.
Step 7 - Cut and align the colors of vinyl you are using with their placement on the mat. Use the grid view on the computer to locate the right places. Place vinyl side up and push it to the purple sticky mat.
Step 8 - Begin the cutting. Once completed remove the excess vinyl material from the mat, leaving the good stuff on. This is called weeding.
Step 9 - Using a transfer tape (I like medium grip), push the tape over the good vinyl. Rub with a credit card or squeegee. Carefully peel off, making certain all the vinyl is sticking to the tape.
Step 10 - Take the vinyl strip and press the entire image to your cup. Pay attention to angling it straight.
Step 11 - Rub, rub, rub. Get all the air bubbles out and get the vinyl to stick to the cup. Test the corners very slowly to see if the vinyl is now sticking to the cup. If not, place it back down and rub more. Get all the little corners.
Step 12 - Once the image is stuck on, remove the tape. Your project is done!
